Awhile back, I shared via social media my excitement to be traveling to Honolulu, Hawaii in 2019 to attend the Hawaii International Conference on Education. I will be presenting not one, but TWO workshop sessions! Read below for more information:
P.E.E.P.S
P.E.E.P.S stands for Parent Engagement Empowerment Participation Seminar. This particular workshop will be for Professors serving in educator preparation programs where they will learn to communicate to Pre-service teachers effective uses of technology and traditional approaches to reach parents. They will learn to teach future educators how to equip and empower parents and community stakeholders in any setting, as well as gain new perspectives on the needs of their Pre-service teachers in making parents a vital role within classrooms. Changing the Language
Changing the Language is a session that I have shared at several conferences before, but this particular workshop will be longer than a traditional 50-60 minute concurrent session, and take a more extensive look at a review of literature on best practices for teaching literacy skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing, visual), and work collaboratively with the audience to challenge, explore, and engage in new conversations that can be used to transform the academic language that they use in their classroom as it relates to literacy. This will be my first international conference that is not on the mainland of the United States. I look forward to meeting and networking with education professionals from all over the world, and I wouldn’t want to do this in any place other than my most favorite place in the world, my “Happy Place” and my retirement home (I’m claiming this now)…beautiful Hawaii.
