On Friday, February 3, 2017 at Texas Southern University, I had the pleasure of presenting a two and a half hour writing seminar to teacher candidates that are in the final phase of their undergraduate college careers. For education majors, this “final phase” is the Student Teacher point of their journey, in which they are out in the field, and currently serving in roles at a school in the greater Houston area. The goal of the session is to present strategies in which the teacher candidates will use to implement across a wide variety of subject areas, and to be able to differentiate learning for the diverse student populations they will be faced with. They not only will learn the different purposes of writing for all subjects, but they will learn to engage, and challenge students to write and think about concepts using the written word.
I always enjoy the opportunity to network with other education professionals, and I was really excited to work with new and fresh voices in our field. The highlights of the presentation are below, as well as the session handouts:
